Eid Extravaganza: OTT Platforms Unveil New Web Series and Films
With a growing audience interest in OTT platforms, viewers are increasingly drawn to action, thriller, murder mysteries, and unique storytelling. To cater to this demand, several new web films and series have been released on streaming platforms such as Chorki, Bongo, Deepto Play, and Hoichoi this Eid-ul-Fitr. In addition to Bangladesh’s leading OTT platforms like Chorki, Bongo, and Binge, Indian and international platforms, including Netflix and Hoichoi, have also launched diverse video content for the festive season. Some of the notable releases include "Myself Allen Swapon 2," "Chhaya," "Jimmi," "How Sweet," "Test," and "Pulse."
Myself Allen Swapon 2
The announcement of "Myself Allen Swapon 2" came with the intriguing mystery of 40 billion BDT, leading fans to speculate that the second season would reveal the whereabouts of the money. Additionally, the series continues to explore the criminal pathways Allen Swapon embarked on in the first season.
Released on the eve of Eid, the series is now streaming on Chorki. Actor Nasir Uddin Khan reprises his role as Allen Swapon, alongside returning cast members Rafiat Rashid Mithila, Aimon Shimla, Farhad Limon, and Arnob Tripura. A surprise addition to this season is musician Jafar Rahman.
Chhaya
Director Wazed Ali’s film "Chhaya" aims to spread a positive social message against violence toward women and children. Initially planned for theatrical release, the film has instead premiered on an OTT platform.
The story revolves around two orphaned siblings who grow up neglected. Their lives take a tragic turn when a stepmother enters their home, and after her death, the daughter is falsely accused of murder. Young actors Simrin Lubaba and Arnill play the central roles, alongside Shabnam Bubly, Pallab, and Asif Noor. "Chhaya" is available for streaming on iScreen from Eid day.
Jimmi
For the first time, acclaimed actress Jaya Ahsan has starred in a web series under the direction of Ashfaque Nipun. Titled "Jimmi," this series marks a new chapter in her career.
The series premiered on Hoichoi Bangladesh’s social media platforms on March 22 at 7 PM.
The story follows Runa Laila, who is surrounded by money—both literally and metaphorically. As she chases after wealth, her life takes unexpected turns. A simple government employee, Runa’s life changes dramatically, leaving audiences questioning how she came into such an immense fortune.
Jaya Ahsan plays the lead role of Runa Laila, alongside Iresh Zaker, Shahriar Nazim Joy, Rafiqul Rubel, Prantar Dastidar, Mahmud Alam, Ashok Bapari, and Irfan Medha Shiblu, among others.
How Sweet
Directed by Kajal Arefin Ami, "How Sweet" is a commercial web film produced by OTT platform Bongo.
The film stars Apurba and Tasnia Farin in the lead roles and follows a grand-scale storytelling format.
The shooting took place over 17 days across several locations in Dhaka and Barishal. The film also features Marzuk Russell, Abdullah Rana, Erfan Mridha Shiblu, Saidur Pavel, and Ziaul Palash.
Test
Scheduled for release on Netflix on April 4, "Test" is a Tamil film starring Nayanthara, Siddharth, and R. Madhavan.
Directed by S. Sasikant, the movie revolves around an international Test cricket match held in Chennai, which intertwines the lives of three individuals. The story unfolds as they face life-changing decisions triggered by the historic match.
Pulse
Netflix is set to release the new medical drama series "Pulse" on April 3.
The story is centered around a hospital in Miami and is directed by Sarah Boyd. The cast includes Willa Fitzgerald, Justina Machado, and Jack Bannon, among others.
This Eid, with a diverse range of content across various OTT platforms, viewers have a plethora of entertainment options to enjoy.
