The government is actively working to build Bangladesh into a democratic, inclusive, and exploitation-free state driven by technology-based industrialization, a digital economy, and robust governance frameworks.
Today, Friday, July 24, 2026, Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir outlined this roadmap as the chief guest at the Bengal Delta Conference 2026 (BDC 2026), organized by the Dacca Institute of Research and Analytics (DAIRA) at the Hotel InterContinental in the capital.
Responding to journalists' queries regarding the President's resignation after the event, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated, "Do not pay attention to the rumors being reported in the media regarding President Md. Shahabuddin. It is purely a rumor. Democracy is under threat worldwide, but we always believe in democratic norms and the current government remains accountable to the people." Earlier on Thursday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad commented on the same issue, stating, "If the President wishes to resign constitutionally due to health or any other reason, that option exists. However, we are unaware of any resignation." Mirza Fakhrul clarified that the government has taken no action regarding this matter.
Highlighting the necessity of tech-based industrial development and economic growth at the conference, the Local Government Minister noted, "Bangladesh is passing through a crucial juncture. The student-people movement, the aspiration for restoring democracy, and expectations for political change have opened up new horizons for the nation." He urged for economic revitalization by addressing global conflicts, curbing corruption, and digitizing the banking and industrial sectors.
The international conference, themed 'Bangladesh and a Changing World: Uncharted Times, Emerging Orders, and the Politics of Care', gathered local and foreign researchers, policymakers, and civil society leaders.
