Millions Depart Dhaka for Eid Festivities

Nearly 4.1 million mobile SIM users left Dhaka over two days, Friday and Saturday, to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their families. According to reports, on Friday (March 28), more than 1.89 million people departed the capital, while on Saturday (March 29), the number surged to 2.19 million.

The information was disclosed in a Facebook post by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam on Sunday (March 30) at around 5:15 PM.

According to the report, "From midnight on March 28 over a 24-hour period, 1,899,537 mobile SIM users left Dhaka, while 612,332 entered the capital."

Among those who departed, Grameenphone users accounted for the highest number at 816,000, followed by Robi with 447,676, Banglalink with 538,296, and Teletalk with 97,063.

Meanwhile, among those entering Dhaka, Grameenphone accounted for 210,735 SIM users, Robi for 120,649, Banglalink for 212,604, and Teletalk for 68,344.

On Saturday, the number of people leaving Dhaka increased further, with Grameenphone users reaching 918,921, Robi at 506,489, Banglalink at 678,220, and Teletalk at 91,454.

For those returning to Dhaka, Grameenphone users stood at 193,284, Robi at 118,475, Banglalink at 210,387, and Teletalk at 65,885.

Officials from mobile operator companies clarified that the figures represent SIM users, not individual travelers, as many people use multiple SIMs. Additionally, some travelers may not use mobile SIMs at all, meaning the actual number of people traveling for Eid could be even higher.
