BYD Unveils Dual Motor Intelligent Electric Car in Bangladesh
A groundbreaking electric vehicle (EV) capable of running 1,000 kilometers on a single charge was unveiled in Dhaka on Sunday. The BYD Sealion 6, equipped with Dual Motor Intelligence, can be charged using both electricity and gas. Remarkably, during a three-day test drive, the car covered 1,200 kilometers, with an operational cost of just BDT 4 per kilometer which is anticipated to transform the automotive landscape in Bangladesh.
The unveiling took place at the BYD showroom in Tejgaon, where Hafizur Rahman Khan, Runner Group Chairman and Managing Director of CG RUNNER BD LTD — the official distributor of BYD in Bangladesh — introduced the model. BYD Head of Category Development and Marketing Imtiaz Nawsher and BYD Global Representative Charles Chen were also present at the event among others.
The BYD Sealion 6 offers seating for five passengers and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 840 metric tons, according to the company.
Highlighting the car’s features, Fahmid Ferdous, Head of Sales at BYD Bangladesh, along with environmental analyst Rezwan Rahman, explained that the vehicle’s engine functions as a generator, transferring power directly to the wheels via a gearless system. The car will be available in four color options and is priced at BDT 6,390,000 for the first 200 customers.
CMO Imtiaz Nawsher said, this successful debut solidifies BYD's position in Bangladesh, realizing the possibility of a highly efficient and technologically advanced car future. The BYD SEALION 6 is now available for test drives.
Charles Chen noted the company’s rapid growth, stating, “We are seeing 40% annual growth, but this didn’t happen overnight. In the next 15 months, we plan to launch five million vehicles into the market.”
