Bangladesh Team Bags Bronze at Robofest World Championship
A team of young Bangladeshi students has secured third place at the international robotics competition, Robofest 2026 World Championship, held in the United States. The achievement in the “BottleSumo” category has set a new benchmark for Bangladesh’s capabilities in STEM and robotics education on the global stage.
The 27th Robofest World Championship took place from May 14 to 16 at the campus of Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. Students from various countries participated in the competition with autonomous robots they had designed, built, and programmed themselves.
Competing in the senior category of the highly popular “BottleSumo” event, the Bangladesh team earned third place and won a trophy. In this category, autonomous robots are required to push either an opponent’s robot or a bottle off a designated competition table.
Of the seven members of the Bangladesh team, six were students of International Hope School Bangladesh, while one was a college student from Sylhet. The entire team received training and supervision from Robonauts Club.
The team members were Md. Mansib Ahsan, Shayan Sadid Zaman, Tang Tiansing, Nasif Ashab Khan Jami, Abdur Rahman Lahi, Farhan Mostafa, and Abrar Hasan. The team was accompanied to the United States by coach Md. Munjur Morshed.
Md. Munjur Morshed, coach of the Bangladesh team and Chief Executive Director of Robonauts Ltd, said the achievement represents more than winning a trophy; it reflects the students’ confidence, creativity, leadership, and problem-solving abilities. He noted that, with proper training and opportunities, Bangladeshi students can successfully compete on the global STEM and robotics stage.
Robofest Assistant Director Shannan Palonis said Bangladesh’s success in the Senior BottleSumo category demonstrates the capabilities of the country’s students on an international STEM platform.
Team member Abdur Rahman Lahi described participation in Robofest as an unforgettable experience. He remarked that robotics is not only about building robots; it also involves strategy, teamwork, patience, and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
Bangladesh-based STEM and robotics education platform Robonauts Club has been working for years to provide students with hands-on education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics while preparing them for international competitions.
