The Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, Md. Nahid Islam, announced that Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCCL) has taken an initiative to reduce internet prices. He made this statement on Wednesday (February 19) during a ceremony at the Secretariat.

The event was organized to mark the handover of a cheque worth BDT 10.6 million from Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC to the Bangladesh Workers’ Welfare Foundation Fund. Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, was also present at the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Md. Nahid Islam stated, "On behalf of Bangladesh Submarine Cables, we are handing over a cheque of BDT 10.6 million to the Workers’ Welfare Foundation Fund. We aim to create enthusiasm and motivation so that other companies also fulfill such responsibilities with dedication."

During the ceremony, A.H.M. Shafiquzzaman, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, informed that the fund currently holds BDT 11 billion, primarily deposited across various banks. "A portion of the annual profit generated from these deposits is distributed to support workers’ welfare," he added.

The event was also attended by Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division, and Mirza Kamal Ahmed, an official from BSCCL.

Since the establishment of its Workers’ Participation and Welfare Fund in the 2013-2014 fiscal year, BSCCL has been consistently contributing a share of its profits to the government-formed Workers’ Welfare Foundation Fund, aiming to support the welfare of the country’s workforce.
