Press Wing Rebukes Anandabazar Patrika’s Report as ‘Baseless’

The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing has categorically refuted a recent report published by the Indian newspaper Anandabazar Patrika regarding the Bangladesh Army. In a statement on its verified Facebook page, the Press Wing described the report as “false and misleading,” asserting that it bears “no more basis in reality than a Bollywood romcom.”

The Press Wing accused certain Indian media outlets of engaging in “hybrid warfare” by disseminating disinformation to support their long-time proxy, Sheikh Hasina, and to discredit the people and institutions of Bangladesh that ended her despotic rule in July and August. The statement emphasized that such disinformation operations typically begin with entirely fabricated stories, lacking evidence and attributed to unnamed sources, which are then planted in compliant media outlets. If the story is sufficiently sensational, it is picked up by other media, gaining apparent credibility as it spreads.

The Press Wing further stated, “You must choose whether to practice journalism, based on collecting evidence of what is actually happening in the world, or to propagate malign fictions as part of a campaign to undermine the sovereignty and dignity of a friendly neighbor.”

The government reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and maintaining an open dialogue with the media while stressing the importance of responsible journalism. Authorities in Bangladesh continue to monitor the dissemination of false or misleading information and have called for greater cooperation among regional media to prevent the spread of baseless narratives.
