OpenAI Rejects Elon Musk’s Alleged $97.4 Billion Acquisition Proposal

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has informed employees that the company’s board of directors is set to reject Elon Musk’s “alleged proposal.” The information was disclosed by The Information on Monday, February 10, as reported by Reuters.

Earlier, a consortium led by Elon Musk reportedly made a $97.4 billion offer to acquire the nonprofit entity that controls OpenAI. However, Altman has made it clear that the board is not interested in the proposal.

This development is expected to further escalate tensions between OpenAI and Musk, particularly given the longstanding disagreements between Altman and Musk over the future of Generative AI technology.

Following the rejection of Musk’s proposal on Monday, Altman took to social media platform X with a sarcastic remark. He posted, “No, thanks. But if you want, we are willing to buy Twitter for $9.74 billion.”
