Startup Bangladesh Restructures Its Board of Directors and Advisory Board

The state-owned venture capital firm, Startup Bangladesh Limited, has restructured its Board of Directors and Advisory Board with new independent directors joining the leadership team. Tanvir Ali, Chairman of Constellation Asset Management Company Limited, and Ferdaus Ara Begum, Chief Executive Officer of Business Initiative Leading Development (BUILD), have been appointed as independent directors. Ferdaus Ara Begum has played a significant role in private sector development and policy reform for over three decades, while Tanvir Ali has invested in more than 17 Bangladeshi startups.

The newly formed board also includes Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, President of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB); Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Policy Advisor at the ICT Division; Barrister Rashna Imam, Advocate at the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Managing Partner at Akhtar Imam & Associates; Tanvir Ali, Chairman of Constellation Asset Management Company Limited; and Mahmudul Hasan Sohag, Founder of Rokomari and Chairman of Onnorokom Group.

With the expiration of the previous committee’s tenure, Startup Bangladesh has also restructured its Investment Advisory Committee, marking an increase in private sector representation. Previously, the company’s board had only one private sector representative—Arif Khan, Vice Chairman of Shanta Asset Management Limited. With the recent addition of two independent directors, one-third of the current nine-member board now comprises private sector professionals.
