Deepseek AI Disrupts Market, Sparks Concern Among U.S. Tech Firms

Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) company Deepseek has developed a new technology that U.S. President Donald Trump has described as a warning for American firms. However, he also views China’s efforts to create faster and more cost-effective AI models as a positive development. Silicon Valley entrepreneur Marc Andreessen has even called Deepseek one of the “most groundbreaking innovations in the AI world.”

The rise of low-cost AI models has sent shockwaves across the global tech industry, causing significant concerns. This disruption has also impacted the stock market, with major AI chip manufacturer NVIDIA losing approximately $593 billion in market value in a single day—the largest one-day loss for any company in Wall Street history.

Deepseek’s parent company claims that its new AI model rivals the U.S.-based ChatGPT while being significantly cheaper to produce. The sudden surge in popularity of this AI platform and its cost advantage over American AI companies have led to a major shift in the technology landscape.

To use Deepseek AI, devices must run Windows 10 or later, macOS 10.15 or later, or Ubuntu 18.04 or later. Additionally, a minimum of 8GB RAM and 50GB of free storage is required. Users can download the software from the official Ollama website.

After installation, Windows and Ubuntu users need to run the command $env:OLLAMA_DEBUG="1" & "ollama app.exe" in the command prompt. To launch Deepseek AI, they must open the terminal application and enter ollama run deepseek-r1:8b.

For those who prefer an online experience, Deepseek AI can be accessed via a web portal, where users must register with an email or mobile number, or log in using a Google account.

Smartphone users can download the Deepseek app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by searching for Deepseek. After installation, they must register with an email and password to begin using the AI-powered service.
