Bangladesh Refutes Claims of Turkish Tank Purchase, Labels Report Baseless

The Chief Advisor’s Press Wing has dismissed as false a recent report published by the Indian news outlet India Today, titled “After Drone Deployment on Indian Border, Why Does Bangladesh Want to Buy Turkish Tanks?”

In a statement posted on Monday, January 13, on its verified Facebook page, CA Press Wing Facts, the Press Wing clarified, “A spokesperson from the Ministry of Defence has confirmed that Bangladesh has made no decision to purchase Turkish tanks. Such reports are entirely baseless and irrational. Our country reserves the right to develop capabilities for self-defense.”

The India Today report, published on January 10, claimed that following the deployment of Turkish surveillance drones (Bayraktar) near the Indian border, Bangladesh had allegedly decided to procure 26 Turkish Tulpar light tanks.
