Teachers join protest with RUET students
Responding to the call of the students' anti-discrimination movement, RUET teachers also joined the protest of the students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET). They started the rally by blocking the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in front of the main gate of the university on Saturday (August 3) at 10:30 am.
About 3000 students and more than 150 teachers were present in this demonstration.
Along with RUET, students from various schools and colleges of the city including Rajshahi University participated in the protest march. At that time, the protesting students demanded the resignation of the government.
In the procession they chanted slogans like, 'one two three four, step down autocrat’, 'People has got that, you label Shibir everybody’, 'One point, one demand; step down autocrat', 'No more delay, step down Hasina', 'why was Abu Saeed killed, answer you autocrat', ‘Autocrat, leave soon; in this monsoon’, ‘we want justice; justice, justice’ and many more.
RUET student Tanveer Hasan said that today we are holding a protest program in coordination with the whole country. The student society will not return home without the resignation of Hasina- the autocrat.
Taking part in the protest, the former Dean of the Faculty of Arts of Rajshahi University Dr. Fazlul Haque said, we have joined the students in solidarity with their movement. How long will I sit in the house and see the blood of my sons. Did the autocrat government not hesitate to shoot the students? If you fire at this movement from today, those bullets will hit the teachers first, then our students.
