My Delhi Newcastle, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, has won the prestigious Champion of Champions award at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards (ARTA) 2026, recognising excellence, innovation and professional achievement across the UK's Asian restaurant and takeaway sector. The winners were honoured at a gala ceremony held at the prestigious Hilton hotel in London on Monday, October 12.
Restaurant owners, chefs, business leaders and prominent hospitality professionals from across the United Kingdom attended the event. More than 1,250 restaurants and takeaway businesses nationwide were nominated for this year's awards.
Special guests included Paul Waugh, Member of Parliament for Rochdale; actress and dancer Lauren Gottlieb; and Indian singer and former Lok Sabha member Hans Raj Hans. The ceremony was hosted by television news presenter Samantha Simmonds and British comedian Paul Sinha.
ARTA founder and Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Munim congratulated all the winners and finalists. He said the dedication, creativity and commitment to quality service demonstrated by entrepreneurs, chefs and employees across the UK's Asian restaurant and takeaway sector continued to advance the industry. He added that the sector's role extended beyond serving food, contributing significantly to Britain's multicultural society.
Munim also highlighted the current challenges facing the UK's hospitality industry. Rising wages, food prices, energy bills and other operating costs have placed restaurant businesses under considerable pressure, he said. Despite these challenges, independent restaurants continue to invest in food quality, staff skills and customer service.
ARTA is held annually to recognise excellence, innovation and professional achievements in the UK's Asian restaurant and takeaway industry. Another key objective is to highlight the contribution of Asian restaurants to Britain's multicultural society, local economies and employment.
UK-based online food ordering and table-booking platform ChefOnline served as the strategic partner for ARTA 2026. The company serves more than one million customers. During the nomination process, ChefOnline enabled its customers to nominate restaurants of their choice.
Work Permit Cloud joined the event as an associate sponsor, while NRB Bank supported it as a gold partner. Cambridge Regional College participated as the skills partner, highlighting the importance of developing a skilled workforce and supporting professional development across the hospitality sector.
According to the organisers, ARTA aims not only to recognise successful restaurant businesses but also to inspire the next generation of chefs and hospitality professionals. Through collaboration with educational and training institutions, the organisation also seeks to contribute to the industry's long-term development.
ARTA 2026 concluded with its grand finale and gala ceremony, honouring the winners and celebrating the contribution of the UK's Asian restaurant industry.
