Closure Of King Khalid Airport Prompts Action
Biman Suspends Two More Dhaka-Riyadh Flights
- Biman Bangladesh Airlines cancels four Riyadh flights amid airport closure
- King Khalid Airport closure extended until 3 AM Monday Bangladesh time
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has suspended two additional flights on the Dhaka-Riyadh route following the operational closure of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With this decision, the national carrier has cancelled four flights since Saturday. On Sunday (October 11, 2026), Biman's public relations department released an official press statement confirming the measure, taken in compliance with international aeronautical safety protocols.
According to the press release, authorities at King Khalid International Airport extended the operational shutdown until 3:00 AM BDT on Monday (October 12). Consequently, Biman suspended its scheduled Sunday and Monday flights (Flight numbers BG339 and BG340). Revised flight schedules and operational updates will be communicated on Monday at 12:00 PM. Biman expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to passengers and requested their cooperation.
Meanwhile, five additional Dhaka-Riyadh flights operated by other airlines were cancelled as of Sunday afternoon. The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) confirmed that these cancellations resulted directly from the closure of Riyadh airport.
The shutdown follows a missile strike launched by Iran-backed Houthi rebels targeting Riyadh airport, which killed 12 people—including two Bangladeshi nationals—and injured over 300 others. Saudi civil aviation authorities confirmed the casualties early Sunday, noting that several injured individuals remain in critical condition as the Saudi-led coalition blamed Houthi insurgents for the attack.
