Bangladesh Biman’s Boeing Boom: Airline Breaks Profit Benchmark
Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced achieving its highest-ever profit in the 2024–25 fiscal year, recording an unaudited profit of BDT 9.37 billion, setting an unprecedented milestone in the airline’s 55-year history.
The state flag-carrier disclosed the achievement through a press release on Monday, August 18.
Expressing gratitude to passengers and customers for their trust and support, Biman stated, “Their confidence and backing have been the strongest force behind achieving this record profit.” The airline attributed this success to efficient resource management, strategic implementation, and continuous improvement in passenger services.
The release noted that the airline’s previous second-highest profit was BDT 4.4 billion in the 2021–22 fiscal year.
Since commencing operations in 1972 with a modest income of BDT 19 million, Biman Bangladesh has gradually transformed from a war-torn country’s limited infrastructure into a modern, competitive airline.
According to Biman’s accounts, total revenue for the outgoing fiscal year reached BDT 116.31 billion, following the milestone of surpassing BDT 100 billion in revenue for the first time in 2023–24.
Over its 55-year journey, Biman has recorded profits in 26 years. Since converting from a corporation to a public limited company in 2007, the airline has amassed a total profit of BDT 5.89 billion over the last 18 years.
In 2024–25, Biman operated a fleet of 21 aircraft, 19 of which are currently owned by the airline. The fleet includes four state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient Boeing 787-8s and two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
Highlighting another strength, the airline noted, “Our in-house fleet maintenance capability—from line maintenance to major checks—allows us to complete all operations domestically, generating substantial cost savings.”
The press release also revealed that Biman carried 3.4 million passengers, transported 43,918 tons of cargo, and improved its cabin factor to 82 percent, showing notable growth from the previous year. Additionally, January of this year witnessed the highest ticket sales in the airline’s history.
Looking ahead, the state-owned airline plans to expand routes to new popular destinations, implement digital transformation in passenger services and operations, and strengthen cargo services. “Through quality service, reliability, and safety, our goal is to become a leading airline in South Asia,” the release added.
