Exposing critical security vulnerabilities in physical cash-in-transit pipelines supporting decentralized fintech networks, an armed syndicate staged a broad-daylight highway robbery in Gazipur's Shreepur on 9 October, Friday. At roughly 6:30 PM, armed assailants ambushed a transit private car transporting physical reserves for mobile financial service (MFS) provider bKash on the Shreepur-Gosinga regional road in the Kornopur sector, looting an estimated three crore BDT.

The violent interception left bKash distributor accounting officer Himel with gunshot wounds, while driver Lal Mia and area manager Farhad sustained severe physical trauma. Himel was initially administered first aid at Shreepur Hospital before being evacuated to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur due to critical trauma conditions.

Mostafizur Rahman, branch manager of authorized bKash distribution affiliate Vhaluka Channel Enterprise Limited at Mawna Chowrasta, confirmed that weekend commercial banking closures compounded by heavy garment factory wage disbursement pressures created an acute cash shortfall at regional mobile agent booths. Under institutional rebalancing agreements, cash was being drawn against equivalent digital wallet reserves from Narsingdi Sadar distributor Hazrat Ali Munshi, transported insecurely within an unarmored personal passenger vehicle.

Eyewitness accounts confirmed that the vehicle was cornered near Kornopur by a coordinated gang operating between 10 to 12 motorbikes. The attackers smashed the windshields using axes and domestic weapons before firing handguns at Himel. The syndicate looted three plastic sacks holding roughly three crore BDT before fleeing the corridor, leaving behind approximately one crore BDT from the original four crore payload.

Shreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shaheenur Alam confirmed that investigative personnel have been deployed to the crime perimeter. Law enforcement agencies are analyzing regional telecom tracking data, roadway surveillance feeds, and survivor testimonies to identify the culprits and recover the looted funds.
