Advancing biomedical diagnostic methodologies and molecular endocrinology, the Bangladesh Thyroid Society (BTS) inaugurated its 8th National Conference and Annual General Meeting 2026 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka on 9 October, Friday. Focusing on clinical biochemistry and innovative screening frameworks, the technical sessions addressed hormonal biomarkers, advanced therapeutic protocols, and preventive healthcare strategies, with Chief Whip of the National Parliament Nurul Islam Moni attending as the chief guest.

Addressing the assembly, the chief guest emphasized that the thyroid gland plays an essential role in regulating human physiological growth, metabolic equilibrium, and neurodevelopment. He urged biomedical researchers, clinicians, and healthtech innovators to collaborate on precision screening and advanced diagnostic protocols. He pledged legislative backing and personal initiatives to support endocrinological clinical research and public health awareness, noting that the convergence of higher education, scientific innovation, and policy intervention will significantly elevate patient care outcomes.

He further pointed out that public health faced systemic disruptions over the previous two years due to deficits in nationwide measles immunization programs, an operational shortfall the current administration is mitigating through digitized health monitoring networks. Under recommendations from Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman doubled budgetary allocations for the healthcare sector compared to prior periods, ensuring sustainable funding for diagnostic infrastructure, healthcare logistics, and scientific research.

The technical assembly was presided over by BTS President and Director of the National Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (NINMAS) Prof. Dr. A K M Fazlul Bari. Special guests included Doctors Association of Bangladesh President Prof. Dr. Harun Al Rashid, BTS Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. M A Karim, and Diabetic Association of Bangladesh President Prof. Dr. A K Azad Khan. BTS General Secretary Prof. Dr. Nasreen Sultana delivered the welcome address, while founder president Prof. Fouzia Moslem also attended.

The day-long scientific symposium hosted focused technical tracks detailing modern molecular diagnostics, thyroid oncology management, hormonal dysfunctions during gestational trimesters, iodine deficiency disorders, and cardiovascular complications linked to metabolic imbalances. The academic agenda concluded with researchers and clinician-engineers presenting 12 oral scientific papers and 10 specialized poster demonstrations, institutional sources confirmed.
