16 BAU Scientists Ranked Among Global Elite

Highlighting technological innovation, food security advancements, and biological research excellence, 16 faculty members and researchers from Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have been ranked in the world’s top 2 percent scientists list. Based on single-year scientific citations, the achievement positions BAU as the third-ranked research institution nationwide.

According to authoritative institutional sources on Thursday (October 8, 2026), the updated international database was collaboratively released by Stanford University researchers and the Netherlands-based publishing house Elsevier. Nationwide, 347 researchers representing 88 universities and specialized research entities earned places on the prestigious global roster. Institutionally, the University of Dhaka led the rankings with 22 scientists, followed by icddr,b in second place with 20 researchers, while BAU secured third place. Led by Stanford expert John P. A. Ioannidis, the global study indexed researchers using standardized citation indicators from 2025 across international scientific disciplines.

Fazle Rohani (Aquaculture), Professor Dr. Md. Tanvir Rahman (Microbiology and Hygiene), Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain (Genetics and Plant Breeding), Professor Dr. S. M. Lutful Kabir (Microbiology and Hygiene), Professor Dr. K. M. Golam Dastogeer (Plant Pathology), Associate Professor Dr. Md. Tahjib-Ul-Arif (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahfujul Haque (Aquaculture), Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman Khan (Agricultural Finance and Banking), Professor Dr. Abdul Majid (Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology), Associate Professor Dr. Tumpa Rani Sarker (Farm Power and Machinery), Professor Dr. Humayun Kabir (Agricultural Economics), Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Saidur Rahman (Seed Science and Technology), and Professor Dr. Mohammad Nuruzzaman (Pathology). Reporting on the institutional milestone, it stated that the university added four researchers compared to the previous year's tally, demonstrating BAU's expanding footprint in cutting-edge agricultural engineering and biosciences.
