Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, has said that civil engineering is a field with immense future potential. “Like in developed nations, the demand for civil engineers is increasing in Bangladesh,” he stated. “With a growing focus on sustainable development, smart cities, and eco-friendly infrastructure, the need for civil engineers will continue to rise.”

He emphasized that the use of modern technologies and materials is further expanding opportunities in this sector. However, he cautioned, “If we proceed with projects without conducting practical research, we will face various obstacles that will be difficult to resolve. Therefore, a proper feasibility study is essential before undertaking any project or work. This will help young engineers pave a successful and enriched career path.”

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the farewell ceremony for the 19th batch of the Department of Civil Engineering, held on Thursday, July 3, at CUET’s central auditorium.

Special guests at the event included Acting Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Dr. Asiful Haque, retired Professor of the Civil Engineering Department Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, and Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited Engineer Faruk Ahmed. Additional Controller of Examinations and Civil Engineering Department Professor Dr. Md. Moinul Islam also addressed the gathering.

The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Ayesha Akhter, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at CUET, and hosted by Assistant Professor Ms. Mukta Banu of the same department.
