Bangladeshi Physicians Hold Scientific Symposium In Sydney

Harnessing cutting-edge advances in clinical medicine, medical pharmacology, and healthcare technology, the Federation of Bangladesh Medical Societies of Australia (FBMSA) concluded its prestigious Annual Conference and Scientific Symposium 2026 in Sydney. Bringing together over 350 registered medical professionals practicing across Australian states, the two-day academic gathering was held on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27, 2026, at the Western Sydney Convention Centre in Penrith, successfully synthesizing clinical breakthroughs with collegiate networking.

According to event coordinators, proceedings opened on September 26 with a gala dinner and cultural performance featuring musician Naquib Khan alongside community performers, drawing an audience of nearly 600 physicians and families. The core scientific assemblies commenced on September 27 following formal inaugurations by Chief Advisor JC Chowdhury, Convener Faizur Reza (Emon), and Joint Conveners Iqbal Hossain and Sheikh Haider Topu. Addresses were delivered by FBMSA President M. Mosharraf Hossain Khan and Bangladesh Medical Society of New South Wales President Mehedi Farhan.

Jointly anchored by FBMSA General Secretary Abul Jalal Ahmed and BMS NSW General Secretary Rokeya Fakir (Keya), executive addresses were presented by NSW Minister Jihad Dib, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia M. Burhanuddin, Bangladesh Medical University Vice Chancellor Professor F. M. Siddiqui, and Australian Medical Association NSW Branch President Fred Betros. During the proceedings, Mazhar Haque screened a documentary encapsulating FBMSA’s institutional journey, followed by the conferral of the 'FBMSA Presidential Award 2026' recognizing distinguished clinical service.

Coordinated by FBMSA Education Secretary Akbar Ashrafi and BMS NSW Education Secretary Mihir Roy, specialized plenary tracks evaluated clinical data concerning cardiovascular diseases, immunotherapy-induced adverse reactions in oncology, the therapeutic efficacy of Donanemab in Alzheimer’s treatment, rheumatology, RSV immunization pipelines, chronic asthma, lung cancer interventions, menopause management, and complex pediatric neurodevelopmental disorders. Tailored academic guidance was concurrently extended to junior resident physicians and international medical graduates navigating clinical training pathways.

The symposium culminated in FBMSA’s Annual General Meeting and the ceremonial launch of the commemorative medical publication 'Elixir'. In a strategic clinical bilateral panel, participating medical scientists briefed media professionals that expanding acute emergency care technology, standardizing institutional general practice, and deploying international cleft lip and palate surgical collaborations will form the core pillars of future Australia-Bangladesh healthcare partnerships.
