DHAKA: Digital operator Banglalink has commissioned a 50-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar power installation at its Cumilla Data Centre, reinforcing its ongoing transition toward sustainable and green telecommunication infrastructure. Related industry sources confirmed the deployment on Tuesday, 25 August 2026.

Engineered across 2,500 square feet of previously unutilized rooftop space, the photovoltaic system is projected to generate roughly 85,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually. During peak daytime solar irradiation periods, the setup offsets approximately 6 percent of standard grid consumption. The renewable transition will eliminate up to 52 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year while delivering operational energy savings of approximately BDT 1.2 million.

The project aligns with Banglalink's broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) mandates and serves as an auxiliary clean energy source to maintain server resilience and uninterrupted uptime during grid outages or emergency disruptions. Banglalink previously became the country's first mobile operator to introduce data center solar power after deploying an 80kW solar array at its Gazipur facility.

Commenting on the technical implementation, Banglalink Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO) Huseyin Turker stated, "This initiative represents a strategic leap forward in our roadmap to build resilient, green-engineered digital infrastructure. Leveraging solar power within our core data facilities allows us to substantially lower carbon footprints and optimize operating expenditures, enhancing network reliability over the long term. Environmental sustainability serves as an operational cornerstone across our digital engineering ecosystem."
