Tech giant Apple is planning a major overhaul of the design of its popular smartwatch series. Moving beyond the conventional rectangular frame, the company is considering watches with new shapes and structures. According to the latest report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple’s industrial design team has been working on an overall redesign of the Apple Watch lineup for the past year.
Display-Free Tracker and Round Display
One of the most interesting ideas under consideration is a special fitness tracker without a display. Apple is reportedly exploring this concept to compete with fitness brands such as Whoop and Google’s Fitbit Air. The company has also been evaluating smartwatches in different shapes and display categories, including a design for a round Apple Watch. However, analysts believe the round version may ultimately never reach the market.
Premium and Affordable Versions
As part of expanding the lineup, Apple is considering launching a new, more affordable smartwatch instead of relying solely on the existing Apple Watch SE as its budget option. At the same time, the company may introduce a new model in the ultra-premium category. According to the report, Apple could bring back its popular “ceramic body” casing version by the end of this year or sometime in 2027.
New-Colored Bands and Features
Apple is also preparing new-colored straps or bands and different color options to diversify the user experience. With smart rings and screen-free fitness bands becoming increasingly popular, Apple appears to be significantly restructuring its smartwatch portfolio to maintain its traditional market and meet the needs of a wider range of customers.
