BTRC Gets New DG Spectrum Following Official Reassignment Order
Dhaka, August 3, 2026: Mr. Targhibul Alam, a seasoned telecom official, has been appointed as the new Director General (Spectrum) of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The appointment was officially issued through a gazette notification by the Deputation-1 Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration on August 2, 2026.
According to the official notification issued by order of the President, Mr. Targhibul Alam (ID No: 2225)—who served as Director (Engineering) at the Department of Telecommunications and was on deputation as General Manager of Bangladesh Submarine Cable PLC—has been transferred and placed under the Posts and Telecommunications Division as BTRC's Director General (Spectrum).
Notably, while the official government gazette lists his name as "Targhibul Alam," his name appears as "Targhibul Islam" on the official website of Bangladesh Submarine Cable PLC. However, reliable sources have confirmed that both names refer to the same official. His actual name is Targhibul Islam.
This move comes after the former Director General of BTRC, Brigadier General Md. Aminul Haq, was recalled to the Bangladesh Armed Forces on July 28. Mr. Targhibul Alam will be stepping into the position to replace him. The notification stated that this order, issued in the public interest, will take effect immediately.
