To ensure the safety, reliability, and sustainable operation of the Dhaka Metro Rail, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has begun implementing 28 recommendations issued by the High Court. The agency confirmed this in a press release on Wednesday (July 15, 2026).

Following the tragic death of pedestrian Abul Kalam Azad due to a falling bearing pad at Farmgate on October 26 last year, concerns were raised regarding the system's safety. A high-level safety audit committee, led by former CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam, was formed under High Court directives. The committee submitted a comprehensive report titled "Identification of Operational Risks, Safety Audit and Structural Integrity of the Constructed Corridor of MRT-6" to the court.

The High Court has ordered the implementation of 8 short-term, 10 medium-term, and 10 long-term recommendations from the report, alongside 6 strategic guidelines for future projects. DMTCL has formed a 9-member committee to monitor the implementation and submit regular progress reports to the High Court.

Petitioner’s lawyer Tanvir Ahmed stated that the High Court has ordered a progress report on the short-term recommendations within one month. Key recommendations include:

  • Urgent replacement of bearing pads on pillars 423, 442, 446, and 448.
  • Regular monitoring and repair of cracks in pillars and beams.
  • Waterproofing stations and electrical control rooms.
  • Procuring modern equipment for railway track testing and suspending trains with structural defects.
  • Rapid identification of power supply issues and completion of pending contractor works.

DMTCL authorities stated that passenger safety is their top priority and they are committed to operating MRT Line-6 in accordance with international standards.
