Sayem Imran Transferred From ICT Division Over Rampura Firing
Jul 15, 2026 15:55

Sayem Imran, the former Assistant Commissioner of the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner's office, who faces allegations of ordering 279 rounds of indiscriminate firing in the capital's Rampura TV Bhaban area on July 18, 2024, has been transferred. The official, who had been serving as the Senior Assistant Secretary of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division, has been withdrawn and attached to the Ministry of Public Administration.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday (July 15) confirmed this development.

Controversial executive magistrates who ordered law enforcement forces to open fire on the ground during the July-August 2024 student-led mass uprising still hold high-ranking positions. Instead of being brought to justice, they have been serving in policy-making roles within ultra-sensitive state organs like the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Cabinet Division, and the Ministry of Public Administration. The administration initiated investigations into these individuals after detailed investigative media reports exposed the matter.

Prior to this action, Mohammad Nasir Uddin Sarwar, who was serving as Director-9 of the Prime Minister's Office, was also removed from his position. This official, who served as an executive magistrate in various areas of Dhaka during the critical phases of the July movement on August 1, 4, and 5, had been posted at the PMO until recently. During Sheikh Hasina's regime, he served as the President's Protocol Officer and in the highly influential APD (Appointment, Posting, and Deputation) wing of the Ministry of Public Administration. In continuation of these tracking measures, Sayem Imran was stripped of his duties at the ICT Division on Wednesday. Allegations suggest that while he previously identified himself as a member of an Awami League family, he changed his political stance following the political transition, attempting to exert influence by claiming kinship with an influential figure of the current government from the Chittagong region.
