New committee emphasizes fact-checking and digital journalism
The CUET Journalists' Association has announced its new 2026–27 Executive Committee, with Asadullah Galib, campus correspondent of Somoy Television, elected as President and Faiyaz Muhammad Kawsik, campus correspondent of Prothom Alo, elected as General Secretary.
The 15-member committee also includes Akifa Manjur Tisha (The Business Standard) as Joint General Secretary, Golam Mostafa Tanim (The Daily Campus) as Organizing Secretary, Tanvir Ahmad (Kaler Kantho) as Treasurer, Nazifa Tasnim Jifa (CTG Post) as Office Secretary, Ebad Hossain (Khoborer Kagoj) as Publication and Publicity Secretary, Jarin Tasnim Saba (Bonik Barta) as Assistant Treasurer, Anurasha Rafana (Bortoman Bangladesh) as Assistant Office Secretary, Shawqik Islam Joha (Nagorik Bhabna) as Assistant Publication and Publicity Secretary, while Nazmul Kabir Siam (Rupali Bangladesh), Md. Misbah Uddin (Amader Shomoy), and Sabbir Hossain (Dainik Azadi) were elected Executive Members.
The committee was announced by CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan during the Annual General Meeting held at the Teachers-Students Centre (TSC) Auditorium. Outgoing committee members were also honored during the event, which was attended by former Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director of the Institute of Energy Technology (IET), Professor Dr. Jamal Uddin Ahmad.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the growing challenges posed by fake news, misinformation, and disinformation in the digital era. He stressed that campus journalists must strengthen their expertise in fact-checking, digital verification, and source authentication, emphasizing that responsible journalism should always be guided by truth, logic, and ethical values.
He further noted that campus journalism serves not only as a platform for news reporting but also as a bridge connecting students with academics, researchers, administrators, industry leaders, and alumni, creating valuable professional networks for future careers.
Outgoing President Ashab Labib expressed confidence that the newly elected committee would continue the association's long-standing commitment to truthful and responsible journalism while promoting CUET's achievements nationwide.
Newly elected President Asadullah Galib reaffirmed the association's commitment to objective, impartial, and responsible reporting, while General Secretary Faiyaz Muhammad Kawsik said the organization would continue highlighting both the university's achievements and constructive issues that contribute to institutional development.
Media and technology experts observe that media literacy, Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), AI-assisted fact-checking, cybersecurity awareness, and data journalism are becoming essential skills for campus journalists as digital misinformation continues to evolve.
