The 14-week GCI World 2026 global education program has concluded, bringing together more than 25,000 students from 114 countries to develop practical skills in artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and machine learning. Jointly organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), BRAC University, and the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory at the University of Tokyo, the initiative included nearly 800 participants from Bangladesh.

Designed as a hands-on learning platform, GCI World equips students with practical experience in machine learning algorithms, AI model development, data analytics, and real-world problem solving through project-based learning and collaborative research.

One of the program's highlights was the GCI World Hackathon, where participants developed AI-powered applications, machine learning models, and data-driven solutions addressing business and social challenges. Researchers from the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory also shared insights into the latest developments in generative AI, data science, and applied artificial intelligence.

The closing ceremony at BRAC University brought together more than 800 students, researchers, academics, and industry professionals both online and in person. The program aimed to inspire innovation while preparing the next generation of AI professionals capable of addressing future technological challenges.

JICA Bangladesh Senior Representative Morikawa Yuko said that integrating AI education with entrepreneurship, research, and industry would enable Bangladesh to solve local challenges through innovation while contributing globally with new technologies.

During the closing ceremony, the program announced 17 Outstanding Students selected worldwide, including one participant from Bangladesh. These top performers will receive an opportunity to visit the Matsuo-Iwasawa Laboratory at the University of Tokyo in August 2026 for advanced exposure to cutting-edge AI research and innovation.

Technology experts believe that international initiatives such as GCI World strengthen Bangladesh's AI ecosystem, data science research, digital skills development, innovation capacity, and startup culture, while expanding opportunities for Bangladeshi students to collaborate within the global AI research community and support the country's digital transformation.
