Uber, the world's leading ride-sharing app, officially announced the expansion of its full range of services to Sylhet yesterday (Tuesday), aiming to provide a seamless, affordable, and tech-driven transportation system to the residents and tourists of the city. While previously only Uber Moto and Uber Rentals were operating in the divisional city, commuters can now enjoy Uber’s comprehensive ride-booking options starting today, Wednesday (July 8).

According to a press release, Sylhet is one of the fastest-growing cities in Bangladesh and a crucial hub for tourism, education, and business, which has led to a rising demand for reliable transport. Uber's expansion will not only ease daily commuting but also boost the local economy by creating flexible earning opportunities for drivers.

Welcoming Uber's investment, Ariful Haque Choudhury, Minister for Labor and Employment, graced the launching event as the chief guest. "The Government of Bangladesh welcomes new technologies and initiatives that create quality employment and contribute to economic development. Uber's journey in Sylhet will modernize the city's transport system, strengthen business and tourism, and open new income avenues for local drivers," the Minister said.

US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen, attended the event as a special guest. Coincidentally marking the celebration of America's 250th anniversary in Sylhet, the Ambassador remarked, "Uber's launch in Sylhet is a vote of confidence in the city's future. It showcases how our shared future can look—American technology meeting local needs, creating economic opportunities for Bangladeshi drivers, and offering more choices for commuters."

Expressing his excitement, Redwan Reazvee, Country General Manager of Uber Bangladesh, stated, "We are thrilled to bring our services to Sylhet, one of the most vibrant and historically significant cities in the country. Bangladesh has always been an incredibly important market for Uber, and we are optimistic about becoming an integral part of daily life in Sylhet."

Since launching its operations in Bangladesh in 2016, Uber has consistently expanded its footprint across various cities and divisions. This full-scale launch in Sylhet marks another major milestone in Uber’s mission to deliver safe and convenient mobility solutions to every corner of the country.
