Students Relocated After Cracks Found in Hall
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology has begun relocating students after visible cracks were detected in several rooms of a residential hall, with safety measures and accommodation adjustments now underway.
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has started relocating students from parts of Ayesha Siddika Hall after visible cracks were identified in multiple rooms of one residential block.
According to hall authorities, affected rooms include numbers 322–325 on the third floor and 422–426 on the fourth floor of Block C, which have been assessed as carrying elevated safety concerns.
A total of 36 students have been advised to move temporarily to alternative accommodation arrangements within the hall facilities.
Students are currently being accommodated in guest rooms, common spaces and vacant seats left by postgraduate residents while authorities prepare longer-term room allocations.
Hall administration said the relocation process is intended as a preventive safety measure and that efforts are underway to shift affected students into suitable accommodation within the next 10 days.
Earlier notices instructed residents of the affected block to move to designated temporary spaces following an inspection conducted by university officials.
Some students have expressed concern over the sudden relocation and called for faster arrangements for permanent room allocation.
University officials said student inconvenience is being acknowledged, but safety considerations remain the top priority while structural assessments continue.
