Hadi Homicide Hearing: Sister Questions Plaintiff Role, Slams Social Media Smear Campaign

Masuma Hadi, sister of slain Sharif Osman Hadi, has questioned the inclusion of Abdullah Al Jaber, Member Secretary of Inqilab Mancha, as the plaintiff in the murder case and alleged that “dirty propaganda” and misinformation are being spread on social media surrounding the incident.

In a lengthy Facebook post published from her personal account on Friday, June 6, Masuma Hadi presented a detailed account of the matter. She said that although the family had faced various conspiracies for a long time, she had remained silent out of consideration for her brother. However, she felt compelled to clarify the issue due to the discussions taking place on social media over the past two days regarding the identity of the plaintiff in the case.

Describing the day Osman Hadi was shot, she wrote that she rushed to Dhaka immediately after receiving the news and arrived at Evercare Hospital, where she remained by her brother’s side throughout the ordeal. She questioned why officials from the administration came and obtained Abdullah Al Jaber’s signature on the case documents while she was present at the hospital.

Masuma Hadi claimed that Osman Hadi’s brother, Omar Faruk, was mentally devastated at the time. As he had been in the same rickshaw with the victim, his body and clothing were also stained with blood. Under such circumstances, she asked how Jaber became the plaintiff without any consultation with the family and demanded a clear explanation.

She further stated, “If Jaber had not been a son of my native Nolchity, there would have been no question. But everyone knows how closely Osman Gani’s elder sister was involved in his life. I want to know under whose permission Jaber became the plaintiff without first consulting that elder sister.”

Responding to criticism on social media regarding Omar Faruk’s personal belongings, Masuma Hadi said that the watch, blazer, and mobile phone used by Omar had been purchased long ago. She urged people not to engage in “dirty propaganda” without knowing the facts.

Regarding medical treatment, she said that the family initially took the initiative to send Osman Hadi abroad for treatment. According to her, Omar Faruk personally financed and purchased air tickets worth Tk 5.2 million to take him to Thailand. Later, after the government became aware of the situation, it assumed responsibility for the treatment. She added that medical documents were subsequently sent to Singapore for a second attempt, which were accepted.

Toward the end of her post, Masuma Hadi wrote, “How can people spread so many falsehoods about the family of a revolutionary in the name of honoring him? Even if someone cannot show respect, no one has the right to disrespect us without knowing the facts.”
