MIST hosts Bangladesh’s first automotive engineering forum

Bangladesh has hosted its first-ever Formula Student and Automotive Engineering Summit, creating a national platform focused on automotive innovation, engineering talent and industry collaboration.

Held at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) campus in Mirpur, the day-long event was organised jointly by MIST’s student-led Formula Student team ‘MIST Blitz’ and the Bangladesh Formula Student Community.

According to organisers, the summit marked the country’s first national-level gathering dedicated to Formula Student and automotive engineering, bringing together students, engineers, researchers, industry professionals and policymakers. More than 2,500 participants and visitors attended.

The event aimed to strengthen automotive engineering education, encourage applied research and innovation, and build stronger collaboration between academia and industry.

Technical sessions explored Formula Student engineering, automotive technologies and opportunities within the original equipment manufacturing (OEM) sector. Discussions also focused on future mobility, engineering design and industry-driven skills development.

Student competitions included a Formula Future business case challenge, IC engine masterclass and quiz, Formula Student concept car challenge, CAD design competition and poster presentations.

Public attractions featured a car showcase, go-kart racing and simulator racing. The exhibition displayed Formula Student race cars developed by university teams alongside high-performance vehicles.

Ahead of the summit, an online webinar titled TrackTalk 2026 connected students with local and international automotive professionals to discuss Formula Student development, motorsport engineering and advanced vehicle technologies.

Organisers believe such initiatives can contribute to developing Bangladesh’s automotive engineering ecosystem and strengthen future research and innovation capacity.
