An on-grid renewable solar power rooftop system has been inaugurated at the National Parliament Building, marking a new step toward expanding clean energy adoption in Bangladesh.

The inauguration ceremony was held on Sunday, May 24, at the oath-taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, where Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed formally launched the initiative at the request of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Addressing the event as the chief guest, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said global solar power generation costs have dropped significantly over the past decade, making solar energy not only environmentally friendly but also an economically viable solution.

He stated, “This project is part of a broader national journey toward clean and sustainable energy.”

The Prime Minister said the government aims to expand solar system usage across government projects, residential buildings, industries, and irrigation systems. He expressed optimism that the initiative taken by the National Parliament would inspire both public and private institutions to adopt renewable energy solutions.

“I firmly believe that if every citizen takes part in this clean energy transition, Bangladesh can quickly become a model state of green and sustainable development,” he added.

Among others present at the ceremony were Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, and Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni.

Ministers, state ministers, whips, and members of parliament from various ministries also attended the event. Officials and employees of the Parliament Secretariat, along with members of the Prime Minister’s Press Wing, were present during the inauguration ceremony.
