Honoring High-Tech Heroes: BTRC Recognizes ICT Trailblazers on ITU Day

As part of the International Telecommunication and Information Society Day celebrations, ten prestigious awards were presented to individuals, institutions, and innovation teams for their outstanding contributions to the ICT sector. The awards included five hackathon-winning teams, four internationally acclaimed teams, three organizations, and three individual achievers.

In the individual category, the awardees were Dr. A H M Kamal, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University; Professor Khandaker A. Mamun of United International University; and S M Emdadul Haque, Executive Editor of DigiBangla.

The three institutions honored were Brain Station 23, ShopUp, and Ulkasemi Private Limited.

Internationally recognized achievements included:

  • The team that won the 31st NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge in 2025, held in the United States.

  • The Bangladeshi team that secured gold at the World Exhibition Computation 2024 in Malaysia.

  • The team that earned a bronze medal at the International Robot Olympiad in Greece the same year.

  • Hasin Ishraq Chowdhury Taha, who won both silver and bronze medals at the 2025 International Robot Olympiad in South Korea.

In the hackathon segment held at the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) on Friday, five teams were awarded:

  • Champion: Oscillating Pandas from BUET

  • First Runner-up: Red Revels

  • Second Runner-up: TingTing

  • Finalists: Refer Revels and MIST's Shaheed Yamin Forever

On Saturday, the awards were ceremoniously handed over at the BTRC conference room by Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The event was also graced by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology; Mahbuba Farzana, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; Shish Haider Chowdhury, ICT Secretary; Zahirul Islam, Secretary of Posts and Telecommunications; and BTRC Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari.
