Campus Crisis Committee: SUST Probes Forced Hall Eviction Claims
The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have formed a five-member investigation committee following allegations that students were “forcibly” evicted from a residential hall.
The information was disclosed in an official order signed by Registrar Syed Salim Mohammad Abdul Qadir on Tuesday, 12 May, in the afternoon.
According to the order, the committee has been formed with Professor Md. Ahmad Kabir Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences, as its convener.
Other members of the committee include University Proctor Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Director of Student Advisory and Guidance Professor Mohammad Saiful Islam, Provost of Shahporan Hall Professor Iftekhar Ahmad, and Provost of Fatima-tuz-Zahra Hall Professor Ismat Ara.
Earlier, on 7 May, leaders of the SUST unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor, demanding punishment for those involved in the alleged forced eviction of students from residential halls on 26 August 2024. They also called on the administration to form an investigation committee within 48 working hours.
Regarding the matter, committee convener Professor Md. Ahmad Kabir Chowdhury said, “An investigation committee has been formed in this regard. I have received the official letter.”
