Solar Storage Strategy: Minister Urges Rooftop Investment Push
Iqbal Hasan Mahmud has called on businesspeople and investors to come forward in installing solar panels on residential rooftops. He said that, alongside expanding solar power generation, the government is now placing increased emphasis on electricity storage systems to boost the use of renewable energy.
He made these remarks as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Power Energy and Infrastructure Expo 2026, held on Thursday, May 7, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital.
The State Minister for Power noted that without battery or energy storage systems, the full benefits of solar power generated during the daytime cannot be utilized. He added that electricity demand peaks between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm, making it essential to prioritize energy storage technologies.
He further said that, ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, a decision has been made to keep shops open until 7:00 pm. However, various business associations have requested an extension of the hours to allow customers to shop more conveniently.
It was also announced at the event that the three-day fair—organized to showcase sustainable power, energy, infrastructure, green construction technologies, and renewable energy sectors—will continue until May 9. This year’s edition features around 140 companies from 12 countries.
