Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milan has reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy against cheating, stating that “CCTV cameras must be installed in examination halls.” He said strict measures will be taken to prevent malpractice in the upcoming SSC and equivalent examinations, and added that if CCTV cameras are installed in every school, college, and madrasa, the Ministry of Education will be able to monitor examination halls online.
This would enable real-time monitoring of whether teachers are teaching and whether students are present in class, he added.
He said, “No matter how much criticism there is, cheating must be stopped. I will fulfill my responsibility, and you will fulfill yours.” He made this firm stance at a view-exchange meeting with center secretaries organized by the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board at the auditorium of Azimpur Government Girls School and College in the capital on 12 April, Sunday.
The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, Professor Dr. Khondoker Ehsanul Kabir. Officials from various education boards and the Ministry of Education attended the meeting.
In his main speech, the Education Minister said, “Cheating does not happen just by turning one’s head. Those who cheat will have it recorded on our CCTV cameras. The idea that turning one’s head alone leads to expulsion is not correct.”
He further stated that there is no longer any need to visit examination centers by helicopter during exams. “The world is now in the palm of our hand. If a mobile phone can bring the world into our hands, why should we travel by helicopter?” the Education Minister said.
Dr. Milan further emphasized that if CCTV cameras are installed in every school, college, and madrasa, the Ministry of Education will be able to monitor examination halls online. This would allow direct monitoring of whether teachers are teaching and whether students are attending classes.
Reaffirming the zero-tolerance policy against cheating, he said, “No matter how much criticism there is, cheating must be stopped. I will fulfill my responsibility, and you will fulfill yours.”
The meeting was again presided over by the Chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, Professor Dr. Khondoker Ehsanul Kabir. Officials from various boards and the Ministry of Education participated.
