Training for newly appointed teachers at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has been completed. On the same day, the university authorities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private organization to modernize and make the university’s waste management system environmentally friendly.

The closing ceremony of the training titled ‘Foundation Training for Lecturer,’ organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), was held on Thursday, 9 April, at noon in the Academic Council Room of CUET. The Vice-Chancellor of CUET, Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya, attended as the chief guest and distributed certificates among the trainees.

While speaking as chief guest, the Vice-Chancellor said that teaching is not merely a profession; it is a continuous endeavor of shaping lives and a profound moral responsibility. A teacher not only imparts knowledge but also ignites the light of values and a sense of justice. The more idealistic and competent a teacher is, the more responsible citizens the students will become.

The program was presided over by the Director of IQAC, Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiya. The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Kausar, attended as a special guest. The welcome speech was delivered by Additional Director Professor Dr. Md. Sanaul Rabbi.

Meanwhile, on the same day, an MoU was signed between CUET and Base Papers Limited. Under this agreement, an integrated waste management framework will be developed through the collection and recycling of used paper (waste paper) generated at CUET. As a result, CUET’s waste management system will become more organized, and environmental pollution will be reduced through recycling.

The signing ceremony, held in the Syndicate Room of CUET, was attended by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya. On behalf of CUET, Registrar (Additional Duty) Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir, and on behalf of Base Papers Limited, the company’s Divisional Head Bidhan Barua signed the agreement. Among others present were Controller of Examinations (Additional Duty) Professor Dr. Md. Moinul Islam and other concerned officials.

Relevant stakeholders expressed hope that this initiative will not only ensure financial savings but also play a significant role in raising environmental awareness on campus.
