A six-member probe committee has been formed under the leadership of the Dean of the Medical Faculty of Dhaka University (DU) to identify those responsible for the clash between students of Dhaka University and doctors of Dhaka Medical College (DMCH). The committee is scheduled to submit its investigation report on Saturday morning.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital Director Brigadier General Asaduzzaman said that action would be taken against those found responsible after receiving the report. He disclosed this information at around 10:05 pm on Wednesday, April 8, following a meeting held at the administrative block of DMCH.

Meanwhile, medical services at Dhaka Medical were resumed after remaining suspended for nearly three hours, although emergency services have now been restored. However, following the meeting, intern doctors issued an ultimatum, warning of a “complete shutdown” if a proper investigation and judgment of the incident are not ensured. Intern doctor Deepto Nur Kollol stated in the evening that if action is not taken against those involved within 24 hours, the interns will enforce a complete shutdown.

In response, at 9:00 pm, a meeting was held in the conference room of the administrative building of Dhaka Medical College Hospital to resolve the situation. The discussion included the hospital director, the Dhaka University proctorial team, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, and representatives from both students and intern doctors groups.

According to eyewitness sources, a Dhaka University student of Amar Ekushey Hall, Sanim (23), went to the emergency department at around 3:30 pm with fever and abdominal pain. When an injection prescribed to him could not be found, several students approached the doctors regarding the issue. This led to an argument between the students and the doctors, which escalated into a physical altercation. The situation quickly intensified, with multiple rounds of chases between the parties, leaving several individuals injured.
