Experts Urge Evidence-Based Policy for Sustainable Health Sector

Expert physicians have emphasized the importance of science-based decision-making to ensure sustainability in the country’s healthcare sector. According to them, given the current global and national health context, priority must be given to evidence-based treatment, raising public awareness, and improving the quality of healthcare services. Renowned physicians, health experts, students, and conscious citizens of the country must work together on this issue.

These remarks were made at a seminar held on Wednesday (April 8) at 3:00 pm at the auditorium of the Super Specialized Hospital of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), organized by the National Doctors Forum (NDF) on the occasion of World Health Day. The seminar was held under the theme “Together for Health, Stand with Science.”

Health policy expert Dr. Kamar Uddin Mujakkir attended as the keynote speaker. In his keynote address, he highlighted the current challenges in the healthcare sector, the importance of scientific research, the necessity of evidence-based medical practices, and the need for long-term planning to protect public health.

He stated that ensuring sustainable development in the health sector requires science-based decision-making and increased reliance on research.

While speaking as the President of NDF, Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam emphasized transparency, accountability, and coordinated initiatives in health policy-making. He also called on young physicians to engage in research and stressed the importance of expanding the use of modern technology in healthcare services. He noted that building a scientific healthcare system is essential for developing a healthy and prosperous nation.

Panelists at the seminar included Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) of Bangladesh Medical University Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam; former Principal of Mugda Medical College and Professor of the Pediatrics Department at Dhaka Medical College Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman; Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Ibn Sina Medical College Professor Dr. Khorshed Ali Mia; former Head of the Microbiology Department at Dhaka Medical College Professor Dr. Naima Moazzem; Associate Professor of Rheumatology at BMU Dr. Nahiduzzaman Sajjad; and Associate Professor of Endocrinology Dr. Hurjahan Banu.

The event was moderated by Secretary of BCS Health Forum Dr. Md. Jahangir-ul Alam Sohel and Joint Secretary of NDF Dr. Ruhul Quddus Biplob. Others present included General Secretary Professor Dr. Mahmud Hossain Bakaul; Senior Vice Presidents Professor Dr. Sazed Abdul Khaleq and Dr. AKM Waliullah; Vice President Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman; Joint Secretaries Dr. MG Faruk Hossain and Dr. Md.
