State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam conducted a surprise visit to the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) office located in Agargaon, the capital, to verify the timely attendance of officials and employees.

At exactly 9:00 AM, all entry points of the office were closed. Upon reviewing attendance records, it was found that at least 32 percent of officials and employees had not yet entered the office.

The state minister arrived at the LGED office at around 8:55 AM on Monday, 6 April, accompanied by relevant কর্মকর্তারা (officials).

As soon as the clock struck 9:00 AM, the gates were shut and the attendance verification process began. Many officials and employees were left stranded outside after the gates were closed. They later learned that the sudden initiative was taken to ensure punctual attendance.

During this time, the state minister himself stood outside the gate, spoke with officials and employees, and collected attendance information through representatives sent inside.

Later, speaking to the media, the state minister said that as of 9:10 AM, approximately 32 percent of officials and employees had still not entered the office, which he described as a matter of concern for administrative discipline.

He stated that the Prime Minister, along with ministers, state ministers, and secretaries of the ministry, strictly adhere to scheduled office timings. In comparison, a lack of punctuality in various departments and directorates is unacceptable.

Mir Shahe Alam further said that such surprise inspections will continue in different departments and directorates in the future to prevent such irregularities, and necessary actions will be taken if attendance discrepancies are found.

In this regard, the Project Director of the Canal and Pond Excavation Project under the Local Government Engineering Department said that this is a positive initiative by the government, and he welcomed the measure. He noted that the presence of the state minister and the secretary serves as a warning to all officials and employees. Everyone should ensure timely attendance and comply with government directives in the public interest, which will help restore work efficiency and administrative discipline. He also mentioned that heavy traffic congestion occurs in the morning due to simultaneous movement to offices, courts, educational institutions, and other workplaces.
