Minister Calls for Increased ADB Support on Connectivity, Safe Water and Waste Management:

Emphasizing the urgent need to improve connectivity, safe water supply, and waste management in rural areas, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for enhanced support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The call came during a meeting at the Secretariat with ADB Country Director Hoe Yun Jeong held on 1 April, Wednesday. The minister highlighted that significant challenges still persist, particularly in northern regions, where infrastructure gaps continue to affect daily life and development outcomes.

He expressed appreciation for ADB’s growing contribution to Bangladesh’s development and stressed the importance of scaling up collaboration to accelerate progress in key service sectors.

In response, the ADB Country Director congratulated the minister and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to expanding its development partnership with Bangladesh.

Senior officials, including Local Government Division Secretary Md. Shahidul Hasan, along with other high-ranking representatives from the ministry and its affiliated departments, were present at the meeting.
