An allegation has emerged that a man in the Sutalri area of Jhalakathi town came live on Facebook and consumed poison himself, while also administering poison to his two young sons. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, March 31. In critical condition, all three were first taken to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital and later referred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to local sources, the individual, identified as Rakib, made various allegations against a person named “Sagar” during the Facebook Live session. In the live broadcast, he stated: “Sagar, you did everything for your own interest. You established yourself. You never cared about us. In sorrow and suffering, I am leaving. You stay alone in a peaceful world; I have made it peaceful. We are all leaving.”

Rakib’s neighbor and paternal uncle, Jewel, said, “Just before Maghrib, we heard screams from Rakib’s house and rushed there. We saw Rakib and his two sons in distress. There was a smell of poison in the room. We quickly rescued them and took them to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital. From there, they were sent to Barishal for better treatment. They are currently undergoing treatment.”

He further added that he does not know any close person named “Sagar” as mentioned in the Facebook Live, nor has he seen anyone by that name associated with Rakib. It was also informed that Rakib’s wife was not at home at the time.

Regarding the matter, Nalchity Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ariful Alam said, “We have heard about the incident. Necessary legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.”
