France–Bangladesh Talks: Telecom and Satellite Cooperation in Focus

The Ambassador of France to Bangladesh, Jean-Marc SERE-Charlet, paid a courtesy call on Fakir Mahbub Anam, Adviser to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

During the meeting held on Monday, 30 March, at the minister’s office of the Posts and Telecommunications Division at the Secretariat, detailed discussions were held on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications and satellite sectors, improving service quality, and ongoing activities.

The minister said, “The current quality of services in the satellite communication system is satisfactory. However, as the existing agreement is nearing its expiry, prompt renewal is necessary to ensure continuity of services.” He further stated, “Enhancing domestic capacity in the telecommunications sector and ensuring strategic autonomy are among the government’s priorities.”

The French Ambassador said, “The existing cooperation with Bangladesh in the telecommunications and satellite sectors is highly positive. We are interested in further expanding this cooperation.” He expressed hope that the issue of renewing the agreement would be resolved swiftly through mutual discussions.

It was informed at the meeting that discussions on renewing the agreement for the relevant satellite services are ongoing, and both sides are expecting positive progress in this regard.

Also present at the meeting were Secretary of the Posts and Telecommunications Division Abdur Naser Khan and Country Director of the French government’s development partner agency AFD, Cynthia Mela.
