JUST Adopts 12 Measures to Cut Power and Energy Consumption
Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) has adopted 12 measures to conserve electricity and energy. The decisions were taken at an emergency meeting of a committee formed under the 113th Regent Board of the university, in line with directives from the Cabinet Division, the Ministry of Education, and the University Grants Commission amid the global energy crisis. The meeting was chaired by the university’s Treasurer, Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun.
According to the decisions, the use of electric lights will be avoided during daytime when sufficient natural light is available, with windows and doors kept open to maximize daylight. Only half of the existing electric lights will be used, and unnecessary lighting will be avoided. During office hours, excess fans, air conditioners, and other equipment will be turned off. The use of air conditioners will be discouraged, though limited use will be allowed in special laboratories, with temperatures maintained at 25 degrees Celsius or higher.
Additionally, all lights, fans, and equipment must be turned off when leaving rooms, and after office hours, all lights, fans, computers, printers, scanners, and air conditioners must remain switched off. Unnecessary lighting in corridors, staircases, and washrooms will be discontinued. Energy-efficient devices will be used across the campus, and all decorative lighting will be avoided. The use of galleries for various events will be discouraged, although limited use of air conditioning and equipment will be permitted for special needs.
The Electricity and Energy Conservation Monitoring Committee will be divided into two groups to regularly supervise the implementation of these measures. Depending on the severity of the energy crisis, long-distance transportation will be limited. In addition, the university has decided to install stand banners in front of its buildings and distribute awareness leaflets among students, teachers, officers, and staff.
JUST stated that these measures are being implemented to ensure the continuation of education, research, and daily operations in the context of the global energy crisis.
