In a strategic move to elevate its position in global university rankings, the Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, stressed the importance of modernizing the digital library to foster a robust research environment.

Speaking as the chief guest at a meeting on university rankings held on Wednesday, April 16, Professor Dr. Shahinul Alam remarked, “Many factors contribute to the university’s ranking. It is crucial to modernize digital libraries and journal clubs, enhance international collaboration and partnerships, and ensure high-quality research. In truth, research is the testimony of truth. Through research, the diseases of thousands, even millions, can be prevented. Therefore, faculty and residents must come forward with enthusiasm for advanced research, which will significantly contribute to improving the university’s ranking.”

The meeting was attended by BMU’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman Howlader, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nahreen Akhter, Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Calling for increased financial allocation in research, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) Professor Dr. Md. It is also vital to secure the level of financial support required for internationally standard research.”

In light of the growing global competition in education, the speakers emphasized the need for BMU to align with established ranking criteria to remain competitive and relevant. They noted that a university’s ranking significantly influences its reputation both nationally and internationally, attracting top-tier students and faculty, ensuring global cooperation, and facilitating research funding. Rankings also serve as a benchmark for institutional performance assessment and policy-making decisions.
