CUET Petroleum Engineering Secures Global Ranking Again
For the fourth time, the Petroleum and Mining Engineering (PME) Department of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has secured a position in the subject-wise ranking of the QS World University Rankings, published by the globally renowned higher education analysis organization Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). According to the 2026 ranking, the department has been placed 155th globally among 175 selected universities in the Petroleum Engineering category.
Commenting on the achievement, CUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya said, “This recognition of the PME Department is a significant example of CUET’s ongoing progress in education and research. We are making multifaceted efforts to ensure world-class education and research at CUET. Despite limited budgets and various challenges, we are achieving success. With everyone’s cooperation, we hope this progress continues while maintaining a proper academic and research environment and preserving a campus free from instability. I extend my gratitude to all concerned for the continued achievements of the PME Department.”
Regarding the success, Head of the PME Department, Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, said that the achievement is a matter of great pride, but their goals remain far ahead. He noted that through the collective efforts of teachers, students, and all stakeholders, the department will continue to maintain steady progress in research and academic excellence to achieve its objectives. He further added that several initiatives have been undertaken and new plans are underway to achieve even greater success at both national and international levels in the future.
It is noteworthy that the 2026 edition of the subject-wise ranking includes a total of 55 distinct subjects under five broad disciplines. More than 1,900 higher education institutions worldwide have been ranked this year, including over 300 institutions listed for the first time. CUET’s achievement in the Petroleum Engineering category under Engineering and Technology is considered a significant milestone for the country. Additionally, a total of eight public and private universities from the country have been included in the rankings across various subjects.
