Bangladesh has signed its Fifth Country Programme Framework (CPF) with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for the 2026–2032 period to achieve national development goals through nuclear technology and technical assistance.

On behalf of the government, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Md. Anwar Hossain signed the agreement, while Deputy Director General of the IAEA and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, Hua Liu, signed on behalf of the agency. The framework was signed in Vienna, Austria, on Wednesday, March 18.

On Saturday, March 21, the ministry’s Public Relations Officer Md. Tanvir Mia stated that the Country Programme Framework (CPF) is an important reference framework through which medium-term technical cooperation plans are determined between a member state and the IAEA. Under this framework, priority sectors are identified where support will be provided through nuclear technology and technical assistance to help achieve national development goals.

Authorities expect that the implementation of the CPF will further expand the peaceful use of nuclear technology in Bangladesh and enable sustainable progress across various development sectors.

It is noteworthy that Bangladesh has been a member state of the IAEA since 1972. The newly signed CPF for the 2026–2032 period has identified seven priority sectors. These include nuclear and radiation safety and nuclear security, energy, food and agriculture, human health, water and the environment, nuclear knowledge development and management, and the application of radiation technology in industry.
