ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has temporarily postponed the global launch of its advanced AI video generation model “Seedance 2.0.” According to a report by the news agency Reuters citing the U.S.-based media outlet The Information, the decision was taken following copyright disputes with leading Hollywood studios and streaming platforms.

The Seedance 2.0 model, unveiled in China last month, gained widespread attention after several videos created using the technology went viral. One of the most notable clips featured a fictional fight between Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt.

Following the incident, The Walt Disney Company issued a “cease and desist” legal notice to ByteDance, accusing the company of copyright infringement. Disney alleged that characters from its proprietary Marvel and Star Wars franchises had been used without permission to train and operate the Seedance 2.0 model.

In addition to Disney, companies such as Paramount Skydance and the Motion Picture Association have also warned of potential legal action against ByteDance. They allege that the company has engaged in “large-scale” copyright infringement by disregarding their intellectual property rights.

According to The Information’s report, ByteDance’s legal department is currently identifying potential issues and working on solutions to address these legal challenges. At the same time, engineers are incorporating new safety measures into the model to prevent further copyright violations in the future.

Although the company has not yet officially confirmed the matter, it had previously stated that necessary steps would be taken to protect intellectual property rights. Analysts believe the development reflects the growing conflict between advancements in AI technology and existing copyright laws.
