Ziad Shatara, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Robi Axiata PLC, has been elected President of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB).

The election took place during the organization’s virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, 11 March. In the election, Ziad Shatara succeeded Yasir Azman, Chief Executive Officer of Grameenphone. He will assume the role from 1 April for a two-year term.

In the newly elected committee of AMTOB, Johan Buse, CEO of Banglalink, has been elected Senior Vice President, while Yasir Azman will serve as Vice President. Nurul Mabud Chowdhury, Managing Director of Teletalk Bangladesh Ltd., will serve as a Director. The meeting was conducted by AMTOB Secretary General and Director (Retd.) Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Zulfikar.

Among other senior officials from AMTOB member and associate member organizations present at the meeting were Abdus Salam, Country Manager of Ericsson Bangladesh; Wu Ji (Jason), CEO of Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh); Taimur Rahman, CCRA0 of Banglalink; Tanvir Mohammad, CCAO of Grameenphone; Sahed Alam, CCRO of Robi Axiata; and Lutfullahil Majid, DGM of Teletalk.

Speaking about assuming the new responsibility, Ziad Shatara said: “I am honored to have the opportunity to take on the responsibility of AMTOB at a time when the mobile telecommunications sector has become the centerpiece of Bangladesh’s digital economy. This industry is connected with every citizen of the country, and we are committed to building a smart and sustainable digital future. By working closely with regulators and industry stakeholders, we aim to unlock the full potential of this sector and accelerate economic progress.”

He further added: “Our key focus will be to understand the growing digital demands of the people and create an environment where innovation can thrive. Together, we will continue expanding connectivity and ensure that our industry makes a meaningful contribution to the country’s economic advancement.”
