BASIS Hosts Iftar Mahfil to Boost ICT Collaboration and Networking
The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) hosted an iftar gathering with its members and stakeholders of the country’s information technology sector at a hotel in the capital, Dhaka, aiming to further strengthen mutual cooperation and networking within the industry.
The iftar event, held on Saturday, 11 March, was attended as chief guest by Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Minister of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. Special guests included Md. Amirul Islam Khan, Member of Parliament from Sirajganj-5, and Md. Manjurul Islam, Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-1.
Also present at the event were Convenor of BASIS Iftar Mahfil 2026 A H M Rokmunur Zaman Rony, Co-Convenor Ferdous Alam, members of the BASIS supporting committee, representatives of BASIS member companies, leaders of the ICT sector, and various key stakeholders.
With their active participation, discussions were held on the current progress and future prospects of the ICT sector. The event was chaired by Abul Khayer Mohammad Hafizullah Khan, Joint Secretary of the Local Government Division and Administrator of BASIS.
In his address as chief guest, Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said: “The information technology sector is a key driving force behind Bangladesh’s economic prosperity. The government will continue to support organizations like BASIS in advancing this sector. The ICT industry is already playing a significant role in job creation, export growth, and the development of the domestic technology industry.”
Highlighting the capabilities of the country’s vast youth workforce, he added that Bangladesh is well prepared to meet the growing global demand for skilled professionals. To achieve this goal, cooperation with BASIS in targeted training and skill development initiatives will be strengthened. “We believe that Bangladesh will emerge as a global hub for software and IT services in the coming days,” he said.
Emphasizing the importance of public-private partnership, he further said: “BASIS has been playing a pioneering role in the development of the country’s ICT industry. The government remains committed to ensuring a supportive environment for innovation and technology-driven entrepreneurship.”
BASIS Administrator Abul Khayer Mohammad Hafizullah Khan said: “BASIS is working tirelessly to take Bangladesh’s ICT sector to new heights. For sustainable development, the collective efforts of all industry stakeholders are extremely important. Today’s event has not only strengthened mutual networking but has also served as an effective platform for creating new collaboration and business opportunities for our members.”
He added: “The global demand for Bangladesh’s ICT products and services continues to grow. BASIS is actively working to position the country’s digital sector more competitively in the international arena.”
Convenor of BASIS Iftar Mahfil 2026, A H M Rokmunur Zaman Rony, expressed sincere gratitude to all distinguished guests and members of the ICT industry for attending the event. He said: “This gathering during the holy month of Ramadan has created an important opportunity to further strengthen mutual goodwill, cooperation, and networking among stakeholders of our ICT industry. The presence of our esteemed guests and members has made the event even more meaningful. We believe such initiatives will not only strengthen unity within the industry but also play a significant role in advancing Bangladesh’s ICT sector.”
